Settled Sewerage in Nigeria |

The New Bussa sewered aqua-privy scheme was installed in 196568: it serves 256 enclosed family compounds, each housing 1540 people. Each compound has a sanitation block (Figure 7.3) comprising a laundry, shower compartment and an aquaprivy, with a water tap in the laundry area. Sullage is discharged into the aqua-privy tank, which in turn discharges into a short length of 100 mm diameter asbestos cement pipe which is connected, via a street junction box, to a 100 mm or 150 mm diameter collector sewer which runs in the lane or street outside the compound (Figure 7.4). The wastewater is treated in one of two single facultative waste stabilization ponds serving the east and west sides of the town. |
